Larkka’s Familiar:
Brings back an extra item in any activity when its beast friend is depicted with Tar pits, a Spooky atmosphere or Lunar and Solar eclipses.
The story begins here:
Eclipses are a rare sight in Prehistoria, but when they come around, beasts and handlers alike stop to watch in awe. The sky darkens as Umbru’s moon comes in to block Hasswei’s burning sun for a short period of time. But legends say that the eclipse weakens the boundary between the mortal realm and the afterlife…
Start Quest:
Your beast was hunting, exploring, or simply taken aback by the celestial event. As they try to look for shelter, fog rises and gets thicker and thicker. Eventually, they can’t see their surroundings. Before they understand what’s happening, they feel a spine-chilling sensation. Their eyes adapt to a much duller luminosity and cooler air. They realize that somehow, they’re in another world, and it might just be Larkka’s realm.
Depict your beast being surrounded by the fog, finding themselves in the spirit realm, or illustrate this part of the story.
Path 1 – Quest 1:
The place you stand in is something you never could have imagined, even in your wildest of nightmares. Hazy, dense fog swirls around you, so thick that you can barely see your own paws. With a nervous glance around, you begin to make your way forward.
As you carefully walk through the fog, you begin to hear a groaning, which turns into screaming. Hazy shapes of sabers and worgs start to grab at you. You aren’t quite sure if they are trying to pull you in with them, or trying to take your own life force. As you sprint away, desperately trying to escape the tortured souls, you feel another presence watching you. It’s something different — but you can’t see it.
Depict your beast walking through the mist, trying to escape the tortured spirits, or illustrate this part of the story.
Path 1 – Quest 2:
A different kind of figure steps out of the fog — a peculiar looking creature unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It looks up at you with a knowing stare.
As you hold its eerie green gaze, you begin to wonder if this creature knows something. “I lost a loved one,” you whisper. “Can you bring me to them?”
The creature bounds away with a squeak. With no better options, you follow it. As the fog parts, you see another hazy figure — but this time, it is peaceful. You immediately recognize your loved one and embrace their spirit.
“Please,” you plead. “I don’t want to leave. I don’t want to lose you again.”
Depict your beast interacting with Larkka’s familiar, meeting their loved one’s spirit, or illustrate this part of the story.
Path 1 – Quest 3:
Your loved one holds your gaze warmly. “Death is inevitable, and that’s okay. Our time comes for each of us. But it isn’t your time yet.”
They embrace you again, their misty spirit body wrapping around you. “Understand that we must part ways. You must leave the spirit realm and return to the living — and I must stay here. But I will always watch over you.”
Your loved one’s words resonate with you. While it breaks your heart to leave, you understand that this must happen. The purple-black mist surrounding Larkka’s familiar begins to spread until it completely surrounds you. Blinded by the mist, you feel as if you’re floating in air for a few moments until you touch down again. This time, the ground feels different. As the mist dissipates, the familiar world surrounds you once again. You have returned to the mortal world, but you will never forget your experience.
Depict your beast saying goodbye to their loved one, being transported back to the mortal world, or illustrate this part of the story.
Path 2 – Quest 1:
A shiver runs down your spine as cold seeps into your bones. Something tickles your leg. You peer through the fog and see a thin, claw-like structure grabbing at you. Startled, you yank your leg back, and pick up a run as more claws try to grab at you. You have the spine-chilling feeling that you’re being watched. Whispers come from all around you, and while you can’t see their source, it sounds like they are right next to your ears. The noise is almost deafening; you wish you could just curl up on the ground and cover your ears until everything goes away. But then you realize that this is the land of the dead — Larkka’s realm. She can help me, you think as you set off with newfound determination.
As you bound through the fog, a massive, dark shape begins to form in your sights. The fog clears before the dark figure and you are faced with the goddess of darkness and void herself.
Depict your beast trying to escape the claws from the mist, searching for Larkka, or illustrate this part of the story.
Path 2 – Quest 2:
You clamber desperately up to Larkka. “Please help me!” you beg. “I don’t know how I got here, but I need to go back!”
The goddess gazes nonchalantly down at your beast. You can’t see her eyes well through the skull that adorns her head, but she almost looks bored. “Now why would I do that? Your soul will be mine eventually. All come to my realm when I call them. If you’re already here, that’s less work for me.”
Suddenly, you hear something bound from the fog behind you. You freeze, thinking you’re about to be attacked, but a small creature jumps to your side. It snaps its head up to stare up at Larkka and makes a series of loud clicking sounds.
Larkka seems to understand and responds with a lower-pitched clicking. You stand there, your blood running cold as you realize you have no idea what they are saying to each other.
Depict your beast talking with Larkka, watching Larkka speak with her familiar, or illustrate this part of the story.
Path 2 – Quest 3:
Larkka gazes thoughtfully down at this creature that resembles herself. The massive goddess lets out a low rumble. “Hmm. You are correct. Souls should not be taken before their time.” Larkka looks to you, and you can see her amber eyes burning into yours. “Would you agree that this is not your time?”
Stunned into silence, you nod quickly. She raises her head, the bones that adorn her clunking as they shift. “Very well. I will see you again when I come to collect you; when it’s your time.” She lifts her paw and a dark mist eminates from it. Quickly, the mist flies toward you and surrounds you. You’re afraid it might suffocate you, but as quickly as it came, it vanishes. You blink as you realize you have returned to the real world, somehow unscathed.
Depict your beast parting ways with Larkka, being transported back to the mortal world, or illustrate this part of the story.
