Complexity of Images:
In Prehistoria-ARPG we differentiate between three different types of backgrounds: Simple, Semi-Complex and Complex.
Basically, the more details and elements your image has, the more complex it is.
What we consider elements: trees, bushes, mountains, clouds, stones, grass, sky, flowers and so on!

Disclaimer: the examples below are just examples, we do not expect players to start drawing in the two styles shown! We just want to clarify what we understand as “Simple, Semi-Complex and Complex” as these terms spread a lot of confusion.
In general: the more time you invest in your pieces, the more detailed they are and the more effort you put into your drawings – the higher the complexity of your images!

Simple backgrounds:

ImageComplexityIlluSimpleBGs
Simple backgrounds are the ones needing the least amount of details and elements.
(Elements in the examples shown above: grass, sky, a tree, a bush and mountains)

As you can see in the images above, the more details you add to the different elements, the less elements you need in your image (5 elements in the first example vs 3 in the last example)

Please remember that the examples above are the bare minimum we want to see!

Semi-Complex backgrounds:

Semi-Complex backgrounds are between simple and complex ones.

You need more elements compared to simple backgrounds, yet still not as many as complex backgrounds need! Again, the more detail you add to the different elements in your images, the less elements you have to show.

Please remember that the examples above are the bare minimum we want to see!

Complex backgrounds:

ImageComplexityIlluComplexBGs
Complex backgrounds are the ones needing most elements! We expect a background, a middleground and at least a small foreground. If the back- and middleground are detailed / complex enough it is entirely okay to leave the foreground away!

It is entirely possible to not shade anything in your image (as shown in the first image) but you will need more elements and different shades of colors! We will not accept images with all trees having the same green and brown colors!

Please remember that the examples above are the bare minimum we want to see!
