The story begins here
It happened so quickly, so suddenly, that fear and confusion spread just as quickly as the changing of the tide. Snow was starting to fall, the air had a crispness to it that many would only feel with Winter’s first cold snap. First, a frenzy began in which wildlife and humankind alike started to harvest and forage what they could, gathering nesting materials and preparing for the Winter that already was dawning on them.

Then, came the sickness…

Start Quest
There had been no warning signs, no prior symptoms. Beasts and handlers alike were succumbing to an illness that seemed to have arrived with the cold snap. Sweats, fever and shivering. Shamans tried all methods available to them to attempt to cure this strange illness, to no avail. This wasn’t a normal illness that could be cured with syrups and tonics

Depict you and your beasts either trying to help those that are sick, whether handler or beast, or speaking with a Shaman trying to help them.

Path 1 – Quest 1
At the behest of a Shaman, you seek out Donii to help you in your quest to find a Cure. She is more than happy to lend a paw as she fears this strange sickness might spread and turn dangerous.
‘We should first find some healing herbs,’ she says, but not the common ones everyone has free access to.

Depict you and your beasts as they ask Donii for help, or follow her to look for lesser known healing herbs to use for medicine.

Path 1 – Quest 2
You and your beast ventured to the peaks of the mountains to the depths of the oceans in search of healing herds and weeds. All for nought; while they help with the symptoms, it does not cure the illness.
There is only one other place you could venture to look for help… Enlil’s Heart. The only area you and Donii never truly looked for a cure.

Depict you, your beast, and Donii within Enlil’s Heart to look for Ceryn, or pleading the God of Plants to help them.

Path 1 – Quest 3
Enlil isn’t pleased you are there, but with some gentle prodding from Ceryn, he reluctantly agrees to help; he opens the forest for you, your beast, and for Donii, so that you may look for the plants you need to create a cure.
‘Let’s go with them; you know more on what they are looking for,’ Ceryn says, and you notice that his voice has softened Enlil’s prickliness towards you.

Depict you, your beast, and Donii exploring the forest with Ceryn and Enlil, or show them finding the plant that will help cure the strange illness.

Path 2 – Quest 1
While you are doing what you can to help, the Snow King suddenly approaches you. This sickness has him worried that someone foul has befallen them, and that this isn’t something that can be cured by medicine alone.
‘They all share a common story,’ he tells you; the Volcano. All those that are plagued with this strange illness had come back from a journey through the volcanic plains.

Depict you and your beasts either when they are approached by the Snow King, or learning of how the illness started.

Path 2 – Quest 2
You and your beast go with the Snow King to Maukai, the volcanic island where it is said K’Malou is imprisoned. It isn’t a safe place there, you are warned, and it isn’t for the faint hearted.
But you are there for a purpose, no matter what you find there you won’t cower while lives are at stake.

Depict you and your beast sailing across the ocean towards the volcano, or show them exploring the volcanic island and encountering the strange creatures there.

Path 2 – Quest 3
It took so long to scout the volcanic island that your paws are stained with ash and soot, and the ever-watching creatures have made it impossible to focus on the task at hand. But, finally, you find the cause of the illness.
It was no curse, nor a strange creature rearing its ugly head. Instead, toxic gas had started to leak out of the ground, and this was the cause of the illness. Even being a few feet from it, you can already feel uncomfortably warm and weird.
‘Let’s not waste any time, then,’ The Snow King says, and with a nod you help him to cover the hole.

Depict you and your beast finding the hole in the island where the noxious gas is coming from, or show them helping the Snow King covering up the hole.

Epilogue:
The plants were turned into tonics and shared to those that were sick by Donii herself, and those who had been so bedridden were back on their feet in only a day. Other expeditions to the volcano who had returned displayed no signs of illness. But the cold snap, it seemed lingered. Frost kissed the plains and trees, and the snowy landscape to the North was creeping Southward with each passing day as Winter made its presence known.
